Eco Tech: Fuel from recycled bras - Women have a cause to 'support'

bra_kzxl2_69Presently the world is looking for all possible sources of fuel that can be used to power our urban lifestyles. While some researchers and manufacturers have laid their bets on renewable sources such as sun and wind for power, there are others who believe that there are many things, including bras, that could be used to generate fuel.

Japanese undergarment manufacturer Wacol has started a new eco-campaign wherein the company distributes bags at their retail stores for customers to bring in unwanted bras. The company has received about 350 bags with over 35,900 old bras. The 3.59 tons of waste collected through the campaign is being processed and recycled into solid fuel.

The campaign came into existence after the company’s survey resulted in the fact that 61% of women hesitate in throwing away old bras and only half of them say that they don’t want others to see their discarded undergarments. The new recycling campaign takes care of the anonymity factor, and is thereby encouraging women to contribute for the cause of fuel crisis.
